Set in 1922, the year of the ASIA MINOR catastrophe, "Nyfes" is the story of a Greek mail order bride, one of 700, aboard the SS King Alexander, who falls in love with an American photographer. She is bound for her new husband, in Chicago, he is on his way home to a failed marriage. They have the chance to get to know each other on this trip that will forever affect their lives.

Greek Sea, World War II. An Italian ship leaves a handful of soldiers in a little island. They are inefficient, clumsy, romantics and dreamers. Where are the enemy? Not here, just an island of women and children. Rapidly their radio is broken and weapons stolen, what can they do but join in the local culture. They have everything an Italian soldier could want; drink, drugs, prostitutes, sun, sand and sea.

The uncle has constant cravings for 'loukoumades' (honey donuts) and a piglet for a pet! Marikaki (the piglet) winds up being a key figure in the unravelling of a bitter-sweet truth.

After wowing Toronto with his hilarious and poignant "Piretos: Comedy Fever" in April 2007, Harry is back with a new take on being raised Greek in a foreign land.

 

 

DIASPORA NOSTRUM is a group of friends dedicated to organizing events, connecting people to artists, and spreading culture. Founding members, Aspasia Dassios, Maria Antonakos, Harry Sideropoulos, John Preketes, Steve Germanakos, Tom Haralampidis, and Eva Papolis-Vassilakakos, are professionals from a variety of fields. As second-generation Hellenes, they are interested in keeping ties to their own origins while creating links with other traditions.
